Blaenau Ffestiniog
Blaenau Ffestiniog town centre is 300 metres down the hill; Porthmadog 12 miles; Betws-y-Coed 12 miles.
Blaenau Ffestiniog, once the capital of slate quarrying and in the 18th century was known as the "City of Slate". The town stands in an elevated natural bowl amidst this mountainous region, has a variety of shops and pubs but is best known for its tourist attractions; one of the old quarries is the renowned Llechwedd Slate Cavern, or there is the magnificent hydroelectric power station and famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway providing wonderful trips through spectacular countryside. Enjoy superb walks and bike trails, wonderful sandy beaches, dry ski slopes, fishing, golf, delightful Betws-y-Coed and Portmeirion Italianate Village.
The Property: Bodafon Cottage
A late 19th century stone built terraced quarryman’s cottage, situated in a peaceful position just above the centre of Blaenau. Near the centre of Snowdonia National Park. Renovated to retain much original character, Bodafon Cottage offers snug and cosy accommodation, ideal for a romantic break or an active family holiday. There is so much to do in the area; the town centre and railway station are just 4 minutes down the hill, the rear garden gate leads directly up the hill and into the mountains beyond. Manod Mawr/Bach mountains and the hidden Manod Lake are just a mile and a half down the road, offering excellent walking with superb views of Snowdonia, enjoy bustling Porthmadog with its marina, and enormous Black Rock Sands beach, or take in the many famous castles and lovely lakes North Wales is famous for.
Accommodation
Three bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x single, 1 x bunks. Downstairs; bathroom with bath and shower above, basin and WC. Sitting room with dining area, kitchen with electric cooker, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Amenities
Storage heaters downstairs with additional heat from gas fire in sitting room. Electric cooker with oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, colour TV, DVD player, stereo/CD player etc. Gas & electricity included in the rent during the summer months, but a charge of £20 per week is made during the months of October through March. Bed linen and pillow cases are provided however towels are not provided. Parking is on the road at the end of the terrace; note that this is a quiet no-through road. Rear garden has a small patio area. Garden laid to alpine plants and has mountain views. Rear gate joins a footpath straight up the mountainside. Sorry no smoking. Shops, bakers and post office 4 minutes walk down the hill. Nearest pub is the same. Note: the rear patio level has many steps, so is not suitable for the infirm or young, unsupervised children.
